Consumer Books on Celiac Disease and Gluten Free Diet

Q. Are there any good books on celiac disease written for the lay person?

A. Yes, here are some of my favorites:

Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic (Hardcover)Written by one of the leading physicians  specializing in celiac disease, Peter Green, MD.  Just about everything you want to know about celiac disease is in this book.  The science information is written in a very consumer-friendly manner.  Want to know about the different tests for celiac disease, and what the results mean?  This is your one-stop resource guide for celiac disease—an excellent resource for health professionals too.

Guidelines for a Gluten-Free Lifestyle 4th Edition
This guide was my "bible" for sleuthing food labels at the grocery store, when my son was first diagnosed with celiac disease 10 years ago. One section that I find particularly valuable is the list of all the gluten-free additives and preservatives that you might encounter on a food label.  They are listed in alphabetical order.

Gluten-Free Diet: A Comprehensive Resource Guide by Shelley Case
This book is updated frequently and is full of help tips.  I keep a copy of this book in my office for quick reference.

The Gluten-Free Nutrition Guide (Paperback) by Tricia Thompson
What makes this book unique is 50 gluten-free recipes that are high in fiber and developed by celiac experts.
